Sequestration takes place when a natural person or trust cannot further service their debt and are declared insolvent, similar to liquidation in the case of a company or closed corporation.
Liquidation is the process by which a company or closed corporation is dissolved and the company’s assets are distributed to pay the creditors and shareholders of the firm.
Rehabilitation is the process done for previously sequestrated individuals and brings an end to their insolvency. After rehabilitation, a person can start applying for credit and the restrictions placed on the insolvent through sequestration falls away.
